Beading is better with Maysen Rollo Minor, owner and founder of Beadology. This is not the average jewelry workshop, but a space for connections to be stringed together. Beadology welcomes dates, families, youth groups and more to join together in creating beaded jewelry and accessories. While pursuing entrepreneurship at UVU, she took charge in a class project to start a business with just $1 — and that business turned into a brick-and-mortar store at The Shops at Riverwoods which opened at the beginning of 2023. Sometimes, jewelry makes dreams come true.
MAIN MOTIVATION I love seeing people truly connect with those around them. At Beadology, we are building more than just jewelry — we are building relationships. My other favorite is seeing phones being put down, so real connection can be found. SHARPER SKILLS Saying “no” is a skill I’ve gained. Many attempt to take advantage of me being a young female in business, but I have learned (and am still learning) how to discuss difficult topics and say no to what I don’t agree with and find a better way to do things. I liked to be liked, but I’m learning it’s better to be respected. COMBATING DOUBT I go outside and remember what life is like outside of my sphere of living. Expanding my perspective reassures me of what is truly important, leads me to want to serve others, and reminds me of past, present and potential accomplishments. CAREER DREAM My dream is to have Beadology all over the nation! I am confident that beading is timeless and will continue to be a part of jewelry trends for the long haul. PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS A get-it-done mentality. No one is ever going to care about your business as much as you do, so if you don’t get it going, who will? GOOD BIZ ADVICE There’s room in the market for everybody! No one else in the history of the world has done what you’re doing in the way that you’re doing it. MENTOR WINS Heather Griffith Barber. She does not wait for things to happen; she speaks them into reality and makes it happen. She has taught me how to have big, audacious goals, find out what the roadblocks are, and create a plan to overcome them. She is not afraid to approach her dreams … she sprints right toward them. LIVING LEGACY I hope to show the youth that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing! If the career you want isn’t out there, create it yourself!
