Founder | Romp Stomp, Provo

Little baby feet need special shoes, and that’s why Becca Mijares founded Romp Stomp. The SlipKix shoes are essentially long socks with protective but flexible soles — which promote natural growth, better balance, healthy posture and flexible fun for kiddos. Becca may have originally been a music major at BYU, but she branched into entrepreneurship classes and found a knack in the e-commerce space. Since 2020, she has put it into practice with littles’ shoes and is taking the internet by Romp Stomp storm.

SHOULDERING THE LOAD
“I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I am able to be in charge of my own day. Often, I will wake up early and get in some meditation and prayer to get my mind right. Then I like to work for a couple hours at home. I’ll usually break for lunch, work a couple more hours and then go work out. I really try to disconnect in the evenings and go outside or pursue other hobbies so I can have balance in my life.

“I’m also a wife and I teach free English classes for the community. It can be a challenge to balance everything with business and life.”

A STEP AT A TIME
“The entrepreneurship program at BYU really aided me in beginning my business. I took a lot of entrepreneurship classes, even though I wasn’t part of the business school. One of the most useful classes I took was about building an e-commerce brand where I learned how to set up my own Shopify store and run online advertising.

“My dad was also a big supporter of me starting my own business. He is a business owner and has always encouraged me to find opportunities to be a business owner.”

BRAINSTORM
“When I was growing up, I saw that my sister hated wearing shoes. She always ended up losing her shoes in the grocery store, so I wanted to create a pair of shoes that toddlers actually wanted to wear. I came across the concept of a sock shoe, and I thought it would be a great idea for toddlers so they can have a comfortable shoe that’s easier for them to walk in — and it also supports their natural movement.”

GIVE HER A HAND
“I’m proud of the way we’ve been able to start from an initial concept and keep building, innovating and improving the product to where it is now. It’s been a lot of work with customer feedback and multiple samples, but I’m really proud of building our product off of our customer feedback.

“Our best selling item is a bundle of our wrestling styles of shoes. My favorite shoes we’ve made are the purple flower SlipKix.”
